Jean T. Gripe died Friday August 18,2023 at the age of 101, at Westminster Village in West Lafayette, Indiana. She was born in Sullivan, IN in 1922, to Russell and Dorothy Thompson and spent most of her childhood in Crawfordsville. She and her younger sister, Helen graduated from Purdue University where they were members of Delta Gamma Sorority.
Jean married Dr. Richard Gripe in 1944 and moved with him to Lafayette. She was active at Central Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon and an Elder and a member of Circle 19. She was a member of Thursday Club and was an officer of the Tippecanoe County Historical Society, participating, in costume, every year in the Feast of the Huner’s Moon.
Each summer she and Dick took the family, Susan, Tom and Jonathan, to Beulah, Michigan, a tradition in her family since 1932.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dick and her sister Helen, and she is survived by her daughter Susan and sons Tom and Jonathan and grandchildren Stephen, Mandy, J.T., Matthew and Michaela.
