Sara Dieu Tran, 93, of West Lafayette passed away peacefully at her residence at 4:30 pm on Sunday February 4, 2024.  She was born in December 1930 in Vietnam and emigrated to the United States in 1976.  She worked at Purdue’s Meredith Hall for 25 years.

Sara loved to cook and she loved people. Her two loves brought her to the food bazaar fundraisers for the Purdue International Center. Her egg rolls were well known and much sought after. Regulars brought Tupperwares so they could buy extras to enjoy another time. One year, she prepared over 4000 egg rolls to sell at the bazaar! She took great joy in knowing that she made people happy with her food.
A highlight for her was showing Mrs. Arthur Hansen (wife of former Purdue president) how to make Sara’s legendary egg rolls. WLFI News 18 filmed and aired the cooking lesson.

Sara is survived by her children Ngoc Tran (Hana), Manny Domondon (Monica) and Anita Domondon (fiancée Susheel). Also surviving are her grandchildren and their spouses, Emilio & Maggie, Rachel & Jake, and Lorenzo & Allie; and great grandchildren, Elaina, Frances, Ava, Dorothy and Rio. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The family wishes to thank Federated Church members (living and deceased) including Dr. & Mrs. Francis Trimmer (deceased), Dr. Earl Butz (deceased), and Dr. & Mrs. Gary Reif for embracing and loving our family. We are forever grateful for your sponsorship so we may have new lives here in the US. A special thank you to Dr. Reif and Barb Reif for their spiritual guidance and friendship. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Ngoc and Hana for taking great care of Mom in her later years. Our gratitude for their love and sacrifice.

To our wonderful IU Health hospice nurses and caregivers, our family is grateful for your loving care, kindness and concern for our Mom. Your attention and anticipation of Mom’s needs greatly assisted her peaceful transition and gave comfort to all of us.

A celebration of Sara’s life will be held at noon on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the funeral chapel at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 10 am until the time of services that Saturday. Private family inurnment will follow the services.
