Judith Ann Butler, affectionately known as Judy, age 86, was called home to her eternal rest on January 19, 2024. Born in May of 1937, Judy’s life was a beautiful testament to the virtues of faith, love, and family.
Judy’s commitment to her family was unwavering, and she was a beloved wife to Byron Butler for 65 years, having wed on the blessed day of June 1, 1958. Her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was conducted with grace and devotion, and the seeds of love she planted will continue to grow in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her loving husband, Byron; her twin daughters, Carrie (Gerald) Bowman and Dawn (Raymond) Broughton; her son, Dennis Butler; her cherished grandchildren, Eric Bowman, Jennifer (Justin) Porter, Jill (Benjamin) Heazeltine, Schuylar Bowman, Kristian (MaryAnn) Altepeter, and Raychael (David) Irving; as well as ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Judy was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Raymond E Broughton; her great-granddaughter, Destiny Mae Rosenbaum; her brother, James R McDonald; and her parents, James and Dolores McDonald.
After graduating from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1955, Judy began her career at Lafayette Life Insurance Company, eventually retiring from Lafayette Home Hospital as the Safety and Security Secretary. Her professional contributions were marked by diligence and integrity.
Judy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a lifetime member of Lafayette First Christian Church, she lived her beliefs through action and prayer, embodying the church’s teachings in her daily life.
Judy was a member of the “Mother of Twins” and a member of the “Beta Sigma Phi Sorority,” where she was the “1970-71 Girl of the year.” Her hobbies, which included, traveling and visiting 49 of the 50 states, reading, camping, bowling, and playing cards, were sources of joy and fellowship. These activities reflected her zest for life and her love for her community.
Services to be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Chapel in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Thursday, January 25 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lafayette First Christian Church or the charity of your choice in Judy’s memory.
Judy’s life was one of purpose and service, and her gentle spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
