Edwin “Ed” Perry, age 62, of Lafayette, IN passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2023, in Lafayette, IN. He was born on March 3, 1961, in Monticello, IN.

Ed was a very private person who had a passion for bugs, snakes, and creepy critters from an early age. This passion led him to develop an interest in the monster makeup film industry, particularly the older genre, such as the Creature of the Black Lagoon.

During his teen years, Ed met a Hollywood producer who worked on the “Dawn of the Dead” films. The producer invited Ed to live with him for a year as he honed his craft and pursued his dreams of breaking into the monster makeup film industry. He eventually returned back to Indiana.

Ed’s hobby fascinated many, and he was invited to showcase his work and talents at local schools, was featured on TV18 several times, and in the local papers.

Ed was a certified master scuba diver. When he was younger, he enjoyed taking trips to the Florida Keys and Lake Michigan with other scuba diving enthusiasts. Ed never married but had several close friends, especially Chris McGrew and Beth Baker.

Ed is survived by his sister, Maxine Perry-Whitus and nephew Shaun Whitus. He was preceded in death by his father, Max D Perry, mother, Wilma S Smith, and sister, Elaine Ledman.

Ed graduated from Delphi Community High School and attended Purdue University. He served for a short time in the US Navy and received an honorable discharge.

Throughout his career, Ed worked at Reliable Pest Control and later at Purdue University. He retired this past March from Heartland Automotive after suffering from many health issues.

In his spare time, Ed enjoyed going to the movies, painting monster models and was an avid collector.

Funeral services will be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, Funeral & Cremation Services located at 1718 W 350 N, West Lafayette, IN 47906 on Friday August 11th. Visitation is at 3:00 with service’s immediately afterwards at 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lafayette Humane Society in Ed’s name. He would have loved that.
