Marcia Ann Roberts, aged 86 died peacefully surrounded by family on August 4,2023

Marcia was the first born to Marvin and Thora Farney on Nov. 15,1936 in Francesville Indiana where she was raised along with her 2 sisters and brother in a very faithful home.

After graduating from Francesville high school in 1954 Marcia worked as a telephone operator at United Telephone Company in Monticello Indiana. She and her best friend Dorothy would walk to work and most days they were whistled at by 2 boys who would be driving by. Eventually the boys, Jim Roberts and Mack Million, got the courage to stop and talk to the girls and they were immediately swept off their feet. Both couples went on to be married and remained best of friends. We still aren’t sure how Jim snagged such a beautiful girl but after only 3 months they were married June 3, 1956 in Francesville.

They made a home together in Monticello and later moved to Lafayette Indiana where they raised their 3 children.

Marcia was a loving stay at home mother and doting wife. She always made sure her home was immaculate and dinner was on the table at 5:00 sharp. She was the best at cooking Indiana comfort food and unfortunately her best dishes still cannot be duplicated to this day by her kids.

She and Jim had a very loving and affectionate 64 years together and their children were never short of their love and attention.

They enjoyed euchre club with high school friends, bowling leagues, the Elks Club and their cottage on the Tippecanoe. She was a hard worker who held down the fort when Jim worked long hours taking care of all the day to day chores.

They retired to Leesburg Florida in the late 1980s to begin the “fun” chapter of their lives. Hosting the grandkids, Square dancing, bowling, water aerobics, card clubs, gambling and countless cruises with friends filled their golden years. Always physically younger than her years Marcia kept very active in her community and her church. She loved to dance around the house to Neil Diamond and Elvis and almost always had a romance novel on her lap.

The deaths of her beloved boys, son Mike in 2018 and then husband Jim in 2020 took its toll as she was then diagnosed with dementia.

Marcia moved into University Place in West Lafayette in 2021 to spend the remainder of her days.

Her children, grandchildren, family and friends will forever miss her never ending energy, her affection, and her open arms always looking for a hug and a kiss.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Thora Farney, son Michael Roberts, husband James “Jim” Roberts, granddaughter Jennifer Shear, brother Eugene Farney and sister Beth Przystup.

She is survived by daughters Brenda (Rick) Shear of W. Lafayette and Janice (Pete) Dawes of Fort Worth Texas. Grandchildren Lyndsey Shear, Tiffany Shear, Nick (Ximena) Shear,

Jake (Morgan) Shear, Cole Roberts, Elizabeth Dawes and Jonathan Dawes. Sister Sharon Summers, sister in law Elaine Farney. Brothers in law Bob Roberts and Tom Williams and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A very heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of University Place for their special care, love and support. The family hopes you will consider donating to the Dementia Society of America.

Visitation will be held at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel 3631 Morehouse Rd West Lafayette Indiana Saturday, August 26 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm followed by a memorial service at the same location.
