Joan Elizabeth Gipson 91 of Lafayette, passed away at 2:20 am on Monday December 25,2023 at Mulberry Healthcare Center in Mulberry. She was born April 6,1932 in Lafayette to the late Pete and Mildred Sollers Shilling. She was a graduate of Klondike High School. Her marriage was April 1,1952 to Charles Gipson they later divorced.
Joan worked as a dorm laundry worker at Purdue University for 21 years. She is survived by her three children Charles (Melody) Gipson II of rural Lafayette, daughter Sheryl Matthews of Lafayette and David Wayne (Annette) Gipson of Lafayette. Grandchildren Chuck (Stacey) Gipson of Hamilton, OH, Josh (Shannah) Gipson of Otterbein, Christy (Miguel) Castro of West Lafayette, Theresa Loder of Salem, IN, Troy (Kristina) Gipson of Brownsburg, Elizabeth (Joseph) Kercheval of Lafayette, and Ronnie (Stephanie) Matthews of Lafayette, great-grandchildren Wyatt, Lia and Charlotte, Tyler, Chase, Jackson, Braxton, Lily, Brody, Colton, Kinsley, Ashlyn, Addison and Greyson. She was preceded in death by four sisters and a great-grandson Noah Gipson.
Joan was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lafayette.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held in the funeral chapel at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens at 10 am on January 10,2024. Pastor Daniel Eggold will officiate the services. Friends may call from 9:30 am until the time of services. Burial will follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
