James Eugene Tyrie, 89 of Lafayette passed away at 10:08 am Tuesday July 4,2023 at Franciscan Health East Hospital. He was born August 15,1933 in Lafayette to the late Clarence and Edith Nape Tyrie. James served with the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. On June 9,1962, he married Betty Jane Coffman at Hope Chapel in Lafayette. James was a devoted worker as a rewinder at Rea Magnet Wire in Lafayette for 30 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Lafayette, and the American Legion. He enjoyed mowing his yard and watching NASCAR following his favorite driver Jeff Gordon. After his retirement he enjoyed daily lunches at McDonalds and meeting his cousin Jack Nape there for lunch on Fridays.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, a daughter Jamie J. Tyrie of Lafayette, sons Ronald E. (Peggy) Tyrie of Glasgow, KY, Michael (Kathy) Tyrie of Lafayette, and daughter Sandra Lee Tyrie of Monticello. Grandchildren Jordan Michael Tyrie (Alisha) and Great Grandson Banks Michael Tyrie, of Lafayette, Stephanie Bidwell, Nathan Parker, Emilie Ayers, and Jared (Ashley) Parker. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces, Rick Edward Tyrie (Jodi), Sandy Pillion of Battle Ground, IN, Jackie Neal, of Delphi, IN, Janice Mitchell of Indianapolis, IN, William Dickson Jr of West Lafayette, and Allen Rankin of Morehead City, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Edward Tyrie, a nephew, Dennis Allen Dickson, and several nieces and nephews.
A private family service is being planned at a later date.
