Mary Adele Wagner, 94, passed away peacefully on December 29 to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ, in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob (in 1987), her son, Jeff (in 2008),
and her sister Elizabeth (Bette) McNeil (in 2011.)
Mary was born in Delphi, Indiana, to Charles and Helen (Sneathen) Welker. She was raised in Fort
Wayne and graduated from Central High School. After moving to Lafayette, she married Jacob J. Wagner
on December 2, 1948, and raised four boys.
Mary was a lifelong servant for her church and her community. She volunteered for many worthy
causes: Home Hospital Fair Co-chair, Home Hospital Auxiliary, St Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary, Lafayette
Christian School, the YWCA, and helped care for the elderly and people in need. She was a long-time
member of the Lafayette Christian Reformed Church and served on the Ladies Aid.
Mary was very outgoing and worked in the hospitality industry for Howard Johnson’s as a Sales Manager
and Director of Banquets/Events for over a decade, and as a Travel Coordinator for Imperial Travel.
In retirement, Mary cherished spending time with her beloved grandchildren, her cousin, Martha Ann
Denny, and her long –time close friend and neighbor, Bob Butz.
Mary is survived by her sons: Randall Wagner of Lafayette, Brad Wagner (Joy) of Holland, MI and Todd
Wagner (Shannon) of Lafayette. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Lauren, Jacob, Grant (Kenzie),
Shelby, and Matthew, and one great grandchild; June.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of The Springs for taking such good care of our Mother.
Friends may call from 11am to noon on Saturday, January 7 th at the Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens
Chapel of Faith. The funeral service will begin immediately afterwards.
