George Edwin Allyn, 92 of Lafayette passed away at 8:42 May 3,2021 at Franciscan East in Lafayette. He was born February 19,1929 in Indianapolis to the late Meredith and Frances Louise Edris Allyn. He was a 1946 graduate of Lafayette Jeff High School. He served with the US Army in Korea. On July 23,1955 in Jeffersonville, IN he married Helen Louise Scifres and she survives. George was a superintendent for Kettelhut Construction Co, building many buildings in the Lafayette area and many Purdue buildings including Slater Center. He was a master carpenter, master fixer and wood worker, having built many all wood clocks with even the moving parts made from wood.
Surviving with Helen his wife of almost 66 years are his daughters Jane (David) Howe of Orlando, FL, Sally Sharpe of Lafayette and a son Thomas (Clara) Allyn of Ft. Wayne, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and a brother John Allyn of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his brother Frank.
Funeral services will be held Monday May 10,2021 in the Chapel of Faith at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 1pm until the time of services at 2pm. Military rites will precede the service. Interment will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to the Honor Flight.
