Dorothy Jewel Merrell, 93, of Lafayette, IN, passed away September 8, 2022, in St. Petersburg, FL. She was born on July 19, 1929 in Dungannon, VA, to the late John Collins and Mossie (Wolf) Collins. After completing her education, she married Larry J. Merrell, who precedes her in death. They shared many wonderful years; raising their family and watching their children and then grandchildren grow. Dorothy worked for much of her life in the cafeterias for Lafayette School Corporations. She enjoyed cooking, keeping her house tidy, and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many.
Dorothy is survived by her children; daughter, Christine (Mick) Rauch; daughter, Cathy (Doug) Merrell-Smith; and son, Joe (Phyllis) Merrell; grandchildren, Dallas (Veronica) Wilson, Courtney (Chris) Frantz, Lauren Smith, Emma (Nick) Jackson, Andrew Merrell, Erin Merrell, and Grace Merrell; step-grandchildren, Kristine (James) Taylor, Katie (Dean) Bowman, and Matt Rauch; as well as 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Larry J. Merrell, she was preceded in death by her 12 brothers and sisters, and one granddaughter, Devin Merrell
Services for Dorothy will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Tippecanoe Funeral & Cremations Services funeral chapel, in West Lafayette IN; with visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., prior to service. Burial to follow services at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
