Doris Cox Peterson

On April 4, 2023, Doris Cox Peterson (Dee) passed away peacefully at University Place
in West Lafayette, Indiana, of natural causes at 98 years old. She was a long-time
resident of University Place and an avid Purdue University fan and a retiree of that
institution.
Doris is survived by her sons Ross Erik, Kendall Cox and Gunnar Bradford and six
grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband Ross Spencer Peterson and her parents; Flora Belle (Smith) and Henry Alfred
Cox.
Doris was born on April 30, 1924, in Newark, NJ.  She graduated from Columbia High
School in 1942 and went on to attend Syracuse University where she graduated
in 1946 with a degree in Home Economics. She was active in Chi Omega sorority and
a Cheerleader. She continued to pursue her education with a master’s degree from
Cornell University and finally with a PHD from Purdue University at age 80.
Doris had a competitive nature, winning multiple medals at the Senior Olympics in
swimming, softball throw, track and ping pong. A special moment for her was being
selected to carry the Olympic torch as it made its way through West Lafayette. She
enjoyed playing the violin and piano.
A memorial service and interment ceremony was held on April 10, 2023, at Tippecanoe
Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN. Condolences may be sent to PO Box 54,
